This post will look at retail in Allen Park, Wayne County, MI.

Best Buy #1406
3349 Fairlane Drive, Allen Park, MI
Driving distance and time from downtown Detroit: 12.5 miles, approx. 17 minutes

This Best Buy store opened in 2007 as part of the second phase of the Fairlane Green shopping center development. Other than overhead signage replacement in the 2010s and periodical department relocations and changes, nothing much has changed at this store since. However, the exterior entrance to this store did receive media attention when it hosted a wedding ceremony on the eve of Black Friday 2009.

That said, let's jump on in and see what this store has to offer.

Upon entering the store, mobile phones is the first department encountered, located to the right (and in the middle) of the central actionway.

Making our way counter-clockwise along the Best Buy racetrack, the TV department is next.

The TV department spills over into the adjacent home theater department as we make our way further down the racetrack.

Reaching the other intersection between the racetrack and the central actionway, we find ourselves at the computer department and what's left of the music and movies department. Apparent to the decline of physical media sales, the music and movies department consolidated into a small section in the middle of the racetrack here...

...from what had been separate music and movies departments on the left of the racetrack from where I'm standing. Video games and toys are in the background on the right, and straight ahead is the appliance department.

Making our way back towards the front, here's the former location of the separate music and movies departments, now occupied by various other departments.

Another look at these departments from the front end of the racetrack.

Even the customer service area's appearance has received changes...all while retaining overhead signage dating back to the store's opening.

Another remnant from the 2000's decor package is this overhead sign for the checkouts. What I've come to notice is that checkout and customer service tend to retain their overhead signage even as such signage elsewhere in the store gets replaced.

Now that we've reached our victory lap, let's look at the store's interior layout as it appeared in 2012, courtesy of Google Maps, for comparison to the above photos.

Next up are the street level photos.

Best Buy #1406 - August 2007 - As seen from Fairlane Drive. With the construction of a strip building with Smoothie King, Mattress Firm, and Wild Bill's Tobacco as tenants, replicating this view is now impossible. (Google Street View)

We wrap this post up with satellite photos.
