This store, located in the Southgate Shopping Center in it's own building not attached to the strip, was to have opened under Arbor Drugs ownership, but when serious planning got underway, CVS bought out Arbor in 1998. Construction began soon after, and this store opened as an Arbor store under CVS ownership with Arbor signage on April 5, 1999, as CVS #8213 (CVS added an 8 in front of the former Arbor store numbers). The Arbor branding was fairly short lived, as CVS signage would quickly replace it by 2000.

In this photo we can see the north wall of this unusual store. This store was built with a variation of the architectural design that typical Arbor stores were built with in the late 1990's.

We are looking down the second-from-north aisle from the front actionway towards the pharmacy. This photo was taken on April 5, 2019 - exactly two decades to the date of the opening of this store. Back then, it had CVS' early 2010's (or late 2000's?) interior decor package.

What happened when I returned exactly four months later?

In that time frame, it received a remodel into CVS' current interior decor package. The all-gray walls now had an interruption for a new red wall at the pharmacy, with a new wall sign displaying the heart symbol the company recently implemented as part of it's rebranding to CVS Health.

Southland Center, Taylor, Michigan

One of Southland Center's two marquee pylon signs. This one is located at the southeast entrance, the other pylon sign may be seen in the background to the right. The center, the last of Detroit's "Land" malls, is currently anchored by Macy's, JCPenney and Best Buy. Many metropolitan areas have at least one area that's ignored a lot and Metro Detroit is no exception. In this case, that area is called "Downriver." It is a collection of 18 Wayne County communities that are located south and southwest of Detroit, extending down from that city to the Monroe County line. It's history almost parallels Detroit's, like it's major city, Downriver was a major area of French settlement in the 18th century. Meijer #35, Taylor, Michigan

Meijer #35 14640 Pardee Road, Taylor, MI Driving distance and time from downtown Detroit: 16.9 miles, approx. 20 minutes This Meijer store opened on July 19, 1977 as a Thrifty Acres store, the first in the Downriver area of Wayne County. It's trade area includes almost all of Taylor, far western Southgate, half of Romulus and far northern Brownstown and Huron Townships. When it opened, it originally would have looked like this , with a very 1970's interior, including a kids-based "Oasis" section in the center of the store. Due to concerns for safety and responsibility, the "Oasis" would be removed by 1985. In 1991, this store had a major exterior and interior remodel, with the exterior repainted gray with a red band and this logo over the entrances.
