This post will look at retail in Lincoln Park and Wyandotte, Wayne County, MI.

It's been a minute, but for our first 2022 post, we begin by announcing the closures of two different Arbor Drugs/CVS locations that we've covered on this blog. On January 8, 2022, CVS announced the closure of CVS #8122 in Lincoln Park by that February, followed by the closure of CVS #8118 in Wyandotte on April 7. These stores were two of about 300 stores that have or will be closed by CVS over the next three years as it evaluates changes in consumer buying patterns and future health needs.

The closure of CVS #8122 came just months after Meijer #208 across Dix Highway completed its very first remodel, and surprised both me (which is why I have no closure photos of #8122) and Y4123. Meanwhile, the closure of CVS #8118 eliminates a convenient option that residents of an under-construction mid-rise apartment on the site of the former Wyandotte Post Office one block north might have enjoyed.

With the recent announcement that the former Wyandotte City Hall will itself be redeveloped into another mid-rise apartment, it's only a matter of time before the CVS #8118 building gets torn down for yet another mid-rise apartment, and as for the CVS #8122 building, who knows what'll come next for that.

I was able to get a few photos of the liquidation process at CVS #8118 in late March, just over a week before the April 7 closure, and here they are.

Closure signs like the one seen here were plastered throughout the entryway, although no huge closure banners were found outside. Each of these signs announced the transfer of prescriptions to CVS #8029 on Fort Street. Similarly, prescriptions at CVS #8122 were transferred to CVS #8131, which is a few miles up Fort.

Very little was still on shelves with only days left before the closure. This impression isn't really felt in this view of the front of the store...

...but as we move to the center actionway, the empty shelves really become apparent.

This has been a report on the closure of two local CVS stores. Until next time...
